How often should you use an LED mask, and can you overdo it?

Three to five sessions a week, ten to twenty minutes, for at least eight weeks. Daily is fine. Overdoing it wastes time rather than harming skin, with two exceptions below.

The most common mistake is not too much light, it is too little for too short a time, followed by the conclusion that it does not work.

The schedule the studies used

Most trials ran three to five sessions a week for eight to twelve weeks, ten to twenty minutes each. Results built slowly and were measured with instruments, not selfies. Daily use is common in the trials and safe.

The two real cautions

Photosensitivity: some medications (certain antibiotics, isotretinoin, some antidepressants) and conditions make skin react to light. Check your leaflet or ask a pharmacist. Melasma: heat and light can worsen it; talk to a dermatologist first.

What to expect and when

Weeks one to four: skin feels slightly plumper after sessions, nothing structural. Weeks eight to twelve: texture and fine lines measurably better in the studies, visibly better for some. Then maintenance at two or three sessions a week.

Red Light Therapy · Questions people actually ask

Straight answers

Does it burn or tan the skin?

No. Red and near-infrared carry no UV at all, so they cannot burn or tan. What you feel is mild warmth from the diodes.

Bare skin or after products?

Bare. Clean, dry skin during the session so the light reaches skin, not product. Serums and moisturiser after.

Can I use it with retinol?

Yes. Retinol at night, mask whenever. If skin is peeling or irritated, skip the mask until it settles.
